Summary
The person in this position is a passionate supporter of cyclists and believes in their power to change the world. They provide leadership and management to all operations of The Bike Hub. This includes providing strategic leadership and vision for the organization, direct supervision of the Shop Manager and the Education and Outreach Manager, financial management, public relations, and organization and communication. Strong organizational and communication skills are critical as are super time management skills and the ability to lead a diverse work and volunteer team and a wide range of customers, students, clients, and donors. Leading this work in a new organization also requires creativity, flexibility and enthusiasm for the mission of getting more people cycling.

The Bike Hub is a new, charitable, not-for-profit organization dedicated to creating a vibrant, healthy community by making cycling accessible and affordable to all and empowering youth. Our Vision is that the tri-state region around Bennington, Vermont will have a dynamic cycling community where bikes are accessible to all, where health and wellness are celebrated, where young people are empowered, and where cycling is a lifelong activity.

Duties for a half to full time position/prorated for part time
● Leadership - Provide leadership and management oversight for The Bike Hub organization with two primary operations, (1) community bicycle organization that actively supports cycling through advocacy and programming and (2) retail bicycle sales and service shop.
● Public Face - Be an ambassador of The Bike Hub demonstrating the principles of health, learning, and community in daily work.
● Connector - Establish and maintain a strong community network around biking as a healthy, liberating, safe, and fun activity.
● Process Lead - Create and manage organizational processes from start to finish with a focus on continuous improvement leading to an engaged community of happy riders.
● Fundraising - Build revenue through donations, and grant awards aligned with the organization’s mission.
● Safety Focus - Build and lead a culture of safety within the cycling community.
● Shop Development - Shop Income, sales and service, overall operations.
● Facilitation - Support the work of the organization through coordination of volunteers working in retail, maintenance, education, and housekeeping functions. This includes helping to organize the many activities that stem from a joint retail business and nonprofit organization.
● Non-Profit & Business Acumen - Align the passion and purpose of mission with the nuts and bolts of the day to day. Help capture the data, stories, and finances of our shop, education and outreach efforts to convey their power to the world.
● Strategy - Support the board in the development of the organization, based on daily observations and summary of trends in shop, education, and outreach operations.
● Organization - Maintain an organized and clear approach to the efforts of the organization.
● Communication - Excellent written, verbal, and/or visual communication skills in support of a team working on a common mission.
● Volunteer Leadership - History of leadership and growth of a volunteer base combined with a paid staff.
● Technology - Proficiency with email, basic website maintenance, Google Suite, accounting and point of sale experience preferred.
● Grant Experience - Management of grant award and application processes.
Details
Reports to: Chair - Board of Directors.
Hours: Flexible to candidate’s schedule with some overlap with The Bike Hub’s core business hours of Weds-Sat 10A-6P, up to 20 hours per week in first year, increasing as organization develops with potential to transition to full-time, salaried position.
Compensation: Commensurate with experience, potential to grow to a full-time salaried position as the organization develops, based on revenue development through fundraising, grants, and shop sales.
