Born and raised right down the road in Pownal, VT, I have been working in bike shops since a very young age. I spent my early career working with my father Pete at Highlander Bicycle, where I first fell in love with the bicycle industry.

The desire to hone my mechanical skills and shop experience eventually led me to Silver City, New Mexico, where I worked as a mechanic for Gila Hike and Bike. There, I took a deep dive into developing technical skills as well as growing my desire to run a shop someday.

I returned to the area in summer 2022 to help get the Bike Hub up and running. My focus within the organization is primarily the retail and service department, where I act as Shop Manager and Lead Mechanic. I also run the Bike Hub volunteer program, The Bike Angels.

When I'm not in the shop, I can be found exploring old woods roads and off-trail peaks throughout the Green Mountains, Taconic Range, and the Northern Berkshires. As a former Appalachian trail thru-hiker, my love for hiking is right up there with riding. If you’re looking to chat about backpacking, route finding, or rigid steel mountain bikes, I'm your guy.

I was born and raised in Bennington, and I left and then returned to settle in this beautiful town. I am a wife, a mother, a grandmother, a daughter and a teacher of both art and physical education. I enjoy many outdoor activities including biking, hiking, camping, canoeing, and x-c skiing. I play pickleball and attend yoga classes. What gives me the most joy is helping others.

When I was in middle school I saved enough money to buy a  Red Univega 10 speed which was my favorite bike ever. It was my mode of transportation for both work and play. Today, I ride a Giant Sendona mountain bike and a new Felt road bike.

My most challenging bike ride was just a few years ago when a couple of my friends, who ride e-bikes, asked me to join them on a ride from the campground on Forest Rd. 71 near Somerset Reservoir, to Grout Pond and back. I knew this was mostly uphill and I had only ridden my bike once that season. The last few miles before Grout Pond, I struggled. I walked some of the hills and rested a few times. After arriving at Grout Pond, I searched for a vehicle with a bike rack or truck to drive me back to the cars but had no luck.  The days were getting shorter and I needed to get back quickly.  I sprinted the down hills. One of my friends on her e-bike set off in front of me to return with a car. However, when she arrived I had made it to the end.

I am most excited about The Bike Hub because I have noticed a dramatic decline in Bennington’s once vibrant community. Society has changed and communities have changed. People are struggling emotionally, physically and financially.

The Bike Hub is a bright new light to help bring positive change to our community.  Being the Outreach and Education Manager at The Bike Hub allows me to be part of the positive change. I look forward to making new connections with current community organizations and meeting new people.

The Bike Hub is also a place where I can learn to work on my bike’s maintenance, which empowers me, and  take classes on both bike and road safety to make me a better cyclist and vehicle driver.

I am a life-long cyclist, with over thirty years of professional mechanical experience. I began

cycling in my early teens as a means of transportation, but it quickly evolved into an

exploration of the landscapes around my hometown, and then further afield - I was always curious about what’s around the next corner, or over the next hill. Cycling allowed me to discover new places and meet interesting people, and has broadened my horizons in ways I could never foresee.

The most challenging ride I’ve taken was my first bike-packing trip with my older sister. I was

14 at the time, and we took our bikes on the bus to an uncle’s house on the coast of northern

Maine, and then rode home, just north of Boston. We got rained on for most of the week it took us to cover those miles, and we had to work hard to keep our spirits up, but we finished with

wonderful memories and epic tales of adventure.

My favorite bike is the one I have, whatever it may be… These days, I prefer mountain biking to

road riding - it’s easier to hide my poor fitness level if the terrain is technical!

I am happy being part of a team who see the value a vibrant cycling culture offers to a

community. I enjoy helping enthusiasts better understand how their bikes work and am excited to be teaching bicycle repair at the Bike Hub.
